he discerning enthusiast will recognise the Academic model at first glance by its precise architectural design and distinctive features. The characteristic round Piccadilly tubular case and its large, easy-to-use fluted crown are present.
The unique rhodium-plated “Big Ben” hour and minute hands, the small seconds sub-dial cleverly positioned between 1 and 2 o’clock – creating a striking new axis in line with the logo at 7:30 – along with the short, straight and ergonomic lugs, collectively define the One & Two collection.
- With a height of just 10.5 mm, this timepiece will gracefully slip beneath your dinner jacket sleeve, subtly catching the discerning eye of connoisseurs who appreciate exceptional independent and original watchmaking. The One & Two Academic collection is further enhanced by the double white version of the Black Tie, known as the Academic White. These two unlimited versions are available in both 38 mm and 42 mm diameters.
The touch of master watch designer Eric Giroud, who is behind the collection’s redesign, is evident. He breathed new life into the Academic Black Tie and White, adding his own subtle twist that makes the simplicity complex, graphic and beautiful. In 2017, the dial of the One & Two Academic featured Roman numerals carved into the top plate at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.
This year, those same indexes are transformed, resting on imposing Super-LumiNova™ blocks (0.5 mm high!), in matt black on a deep black lacquered dial. The result is optimal legibility, accentuated in dim light, thanks to the striking blue Super-LumiNova™ used. A subtle contrast is created by the grey seconds track that mirrors the minutes track, accentuated with orange numerals every five minutes. It is within these details that finesse and elegance are crafted.
This beautiful, modern and harmonious architectural ensemble, housed in a lightweight grade 5 titanium case, is driven by the in-house SMA03 movement – crafted entirely in Speake Marin’s workshop, the Cercle des Horlogers – with automatic winding via its integrated micro-rotor.
The exquisite finishing on the rhodium-plated bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback. A comfortable 52-hour power reserve ensures this watch can effortlessly accompany any dressed-up weekend.
